AdBlue In Diesel

All around Buckinghamshire we have found a lot more examples of AdBlue contamination when somebody has put AdBlue into their diesel tank. This is to some extent stemming from drivers not being totally sure the way to use it (important: it's in reality not a fuel additive), and partially simply because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are usually right adjacent to one another on the car.

Now, exactly what is the trouble with having AdBlue in the diesel car? As the product is primarily ionised water, it's as bad as putting water in to your tank. Diesel and water do not mix whatsoever and attempting to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. Moreover, the urea is very corrosive to the fuel system pipes and seals and is at risk of crystallisation, damaging injectors and fuel filters.

If you find you poured AdBlue in the fuel tank get it drained at once. And certainly be careful not to start the engine - not even to shift it off the pump. If perhaps you have started the car you would probably need to have the whole fuel system cleaned and fuel filters changed out.

Water contaminated fuel

Fuel contaminated with water, regardless of whether it is petrol or diesel, is actually a significant condition to take care of in a car - particularly in present-day common-rail engines. Having water in fuel tank may produce idling issues, lumpy running, increased smoke and, if it's not sorted out correctly, possibly blown injectors.
