AdBlue In your Fuel

In Buckinghamshire we have identified more and more instances of AdBlue contamination whereby somebody has put AdBlue right into their diesel fuel tank. Now, what's the issue with having AdBlue in a diesel vehicle? Since AdBlue is mainly deionised water, it is almost the same as pouring water into your tank. Diesel and water will not mix whatsoever and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. Additionally, the urea is fairly corrosive to your fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, clogging injectors and fuel filters.

In case you poured AdBlue into a fuel tank empty it at the earliest opportunity. And of course be careful not to start up the engine - not even to relocate it off the pump. In cases where you have started the car you will almost certainly have to have the complete fuel system cleaned and fuel filters changed out.

Fuel contaminated with water, irrespective of whether it's petrol or diesel, is usually an important condition to take care of in a car - specifically in present-day common-rail engines.
