AdBlue In Your Diesel

All around East Riding of Yorkshire we have encountered a lot more cases of AdBlue contamination when a motorist has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is partly stemming from people being unsure of the right way to work with it (be aware: it is in fact not a fuel additive), and partly simply because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are usually directly close to one another on the car.

Now, what is the situation with putting AdBlue in a diesel tank? Seeing that the product is predominantly deionised water, it is almost the same as pouring water in your tank. Diesel and water will not blend in the slightest and trying to run a diesel car on water cannot work. Also, the urea is quite corrosive to the fuel system pipes and seals and is at risk of crystalising, blocking injectors and filters.

In the event that you have put AdBlue into a fuel tank get it drained as soon as possible. And of course do not switch on the car - not even to shift it into a parking spot. If you did start the vehicle you may almost certainly need to have the full fuel system purged and fuel filters changed out.

Water contaminated fuel

Fuel contaminated with water, no matter whether it is unleaded or diesel, can be a significant matter to handle in an automobile - especially in modern-day common-rail engines. Now I am not necessarily so interested in working on weekends, and the other day was no different. I had just left the family after a magnificent roast prepared by the better half, and I was off to help a fellow after he put the wrong petrol in his Peugeot.
