This is partly as a result of motorists not knowing the right way to work with it (remember: it is not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are typically right next to one another on the car.

Now, what exactly is the problem with putting AdBlue in a diesel tank? Seeing that AdBlue is predominantly ionised water, it is actually nearly as good as putting water into your tank. Diesel and water do not ever blend in the least and trying to run a diesel car on water will not work. Furthermore, the urea is fairly corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystallisation, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

Assuming you put AdBlue into your fuel tank drain it right away. And obviously never switch on the motor - not even to shift it into a parking area. In the event that you have started the vehicle you would almost certainly need to have the entire fuel system cleaned and filters changed out.

Water contaminated fuel
