AdBlue In Diesel

Throughout Somerset we have noticed more and more instances of AdBlue contamination where an individual has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel tank. This is in part as a consequence of people not understanding the right way to work with it (please note: it's not a fuel additive), and partially because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are often right adjacent to each other on the car.

Now, precisely what is the matter with putting AdBlue in the diesel car? As AdBlue is primarily ionised water, it is as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water do not blend in the least and attempting to run a diesel car on water will never work. Also, the urea is particularly corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is at risk of crystallisation, obstructing injectors and fuel filters.

Fuel contaminated with water

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it is unleaded petrol or diesel, is certainly an important condition to handle in a motor vehicle - especially in modern-day common-rail engines. Water in your fuel can contribute to idling issues, lumpy running, increased smoke and, if it's not addressed effectively, potentially ruined injectors. Water in petrol is less complicated to clean out as compared with water in diesel - mostly because diesel is an oil. Even so we are able to deal with both cases fairly quickly.

Take note however that whenever the vehicle has been started with the water contaminated fuel it will probably require a new fuel filter to be installed as the previous one will be thoroughly water-logged and ineffective.
