AdBlue In Your Diesel

Throughout Greater Manchester we have noticed a lot more examples of AdBlue contamination whereby a driver has put AdBlue into their diesel tank. This is in part as a consequence of drivers not knowing the way to work with it (remember: it's actually not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are generally directly near to each other on the vehicle.

So, what is the matter with putting AdBlue in your diesel car? Since AdBlue is mainly ionised water, it is actually as bad as putting water in to your tank. Diesel and water really don't blend in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. In addition to this, the urea is quite corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, clogging injectors and fuel filters.

If you put AdBlue in the fuel tank empty it as quickly as possible. And of course don't crank the motor - not even to shift it off of the pump. If you have started the vehicle you will most likely have to have the entire fuel system purged and fuel filters replaced.

Water contaminated fuel

Water contaminated fuel, irrespective of whether it is petrol or diesel, tends to be a significant situation to handle in a vehicle - specifically in more modern common-rail engines. Putting water inside your diesel or petrol can certainly cause idling issues, irregular running, abnormal smoke and, if it's not dealt with effectively, in some cases ruined injectors. Having water in petrol is a lot easier to drain when compared with water in diesel - primarily because diesel is an oil. Even so we can take care of both circumstances pretty easily.
