AdBlue Contamination

All around Cheshire we have discovered an increasing number of cases of AdBlue contamination whereby an individual has put AdBlue inside their diesel tank. This is partly stemming from drivers not being totally sure the right way to use it (remember: it's not a fuel additive), and to some extent simply because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are often right close to each other on the automobile.

Now, what's the situation with putting AdBlue in the diesel tank? Because AdBlue is mainly deionised water, it is actually almost the same as pouring water into your tank. Diesel and water really do not blend whatsoever and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. In addition, the urea is seriously corrosive to the fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, damaging injectors and fuel filters.

Assuming you have put AdBlue in your fuel tank remove it right away. And of course be careful not to start up the car - not even to shift it from the pump. Assuming you have started the car you may in all likelihood have to have the whole fuel system purged and filters changed.

Fuel contaminated with water

Water contaminated fuel, regardless of whether it is unleaded petrol or diesel, is usually an important issue to deal with in a car - especially in current day common-rail engines. Putting water in your fuel can certainly lead to idling issues, uneven running, excessive smoke and, if it is not dealt with fully, oftentimes broken injectors. Having water in petrol is easier to drain in comparison with water in diesel - this is largely because diesel is an oil. In spite of this we can take care of both circumstances fairly simply.
