AdBlue In Diesel

Throughout Stirling we have encountered an increasing number of occurrences of AdBlue contamination where a driver has poured AdBlue into their diesel fuel tank. This is to a certain extent thanks to motorists not being aware of how to work with it (be aware: it is in fact not a fuel additive), and partially because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are generally directly close to each other on the automobile.

So, what is the situation with putting AdBlue in the diesel vehicle? Seeing that AdBlue is predominantly ionised water, it is as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water do not blend in the least and attempting to run a diesel car on water will not work. Also, the urea is extremely corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, clogging injectors and filters.

Assuming you poured AdBlue in the fuel tank empty it immediately. And most definitely never turn over the vehicle - not even to relocate it off of the pump. Assuming you did start the car you would probably have to have the complete fuel system flushed and filters changed.

Water contaminated fuel

Fuel contaminated with water, no matter whether it's unleaded petrol or diesel, is actually an important matter to deal with in a vehicle - particularly in modern day common-rail engines. Putting water in your petrol or diesel can certainly cause idling difficulties, uneven running, increased smoke and, if it's not addressed effectively, potentially ruined injectors.
